The gall bladder is a tiny organ that is connected to the liver. It is situated just under the rib cage and contains the bile juice made by the liver. This bile juice is used to digest fats. An inflamed gall bladder(also called cholecyst) occurs when a gall stone blocks the flow of pancreatic juice or when there is an infected material in the bile duct. There are two types of cholecysts inflammation or cholecystitis, acute and chronic. Inflamed gall bladder symptoms include:-
1. Abdominal pain: This is one of the first symptoms of an inflamed cholecyst that a person may experience. This abdominal pain is felt on the right side of the body. This abdominal pain is intense and sharp and is generally felt after eating greasy or fatty foods. Experts say that this stomach pain is only linked to a cholecyst disorder, if the area around your cholecyst feels tender and painful when touched. If this happens, there is a possibility of your cholecyst being inflamed.
2. Mild to moderate chest pain and Heartburn: This is another inflamed cholecyst symptom that you should look out for. These pains are not always located in the central area of the chest. These pains occur under the breastbone.
3. Fever: Fever is usually a symptom of an underlying medical infection and is a common sign of a cholecyst infection as well. Fever occurs when the body’s temperature is more than 98.6°F. Fever is another one of the symptoms that warns the individual that there is something wrong with the body.
4. Chills and Sweating: Chills and sweating are two of the more noticeable symptoms of inflamed cholecyst. Many people who have inflamed cholecysts experience chills and sweats. These people undergo episodes of chills accompanied by shaking and sweating.
5. Jaundice: This is one of the symptoms that is most noticeable when you have an inflamed cholecyst. Jaundice occurs when the liver and gall bladder are not functioning properly. This leads to a build up of bilirubin in the system and the skin and eyes turn yellow. Bilirubin is the fluid that is produced when hemoglobin breaks down.
Do contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the symptoms of inflamed cholecyst listed above. Such symptoms warrant medical examinations. Many people who suffer from a gall bladder attack symptoms (as given above) are not even aware that it is the start of a gall bladder problem. Such symptoms are commonly seen in individuals who are diabetic, are prone to overeating, or have a high intake of fat. Older women are more susceptible to this as well. Some of the common gall bladder attack symptoms include nausea, vomiting, gas, burping, belching, chest pain, and a bitter fluid coming up in the mouth after eating. At times, people cannot sit up straight or be able to walk without bending over, due to the excruciating pain that accompanies an attack. Such symptoms may last anywhere from 15 minutes to 15 hours. Try lying down immediately on a bed or couch. The left side of your body should be lying on a pillow as this helps to ease the pressure from the gall bladder. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics to treat a severe infection. Pain medication as well as medication to help the nausea and vomiting may be prescribed as well. If the medication does not help, then surgery to remove the gall bladder will be carried out. This is usually done in cases of chronic cholecystitis.
Chronic cholecystitis usually occurs in children below 11 years of age. Gall bladder symptoms in children include pain in the upper right side of the abdomen, fever accompanied by chills, indigestion, gas, bloating, vomiting, nausea, burping and belching, especially after a meal.
